We are in them midst of trip planning at present. We have quite the ‘to-do’ list running. In no real order, current items are:
Vehicle/Equipment/Spares:
Being an older vehicle, I am giving Betty a bit more attention than probably normal. We have some great independent Land Rover specialists in Australia, so will have a complete pre-trip going through completed in the next month. We will then do another shake down trip into Central Australia, before completing one more!
We will travel with more spares this time, at this stage we are planning on travelling with a spare alternator, starter motor, various hoses, brake vacuum pump, brake booster and spare driveline bearings.
In process is the purchase of some final pieces of equipment. Currently on order is a composting toilet and a Lifesaver water filter. We have travelled a lot domestically, so most equipment is ready to go.
Documentation / Approvals
Most documentation will be arranged closer to departure. On the list is the Carnet de Passage and a longer stay social visa for Indonesia. After Malaysia, the Carnet de Passage does not appear necessary, so will most likely utilise temporary import permits from Thailand onwards.
Shipping
We are shipping out of Darwin. Quotes received by two companies. Consolidating a load with another traveller will be a huge cost saver!
