About the Blog

The blog is really a journal to record our overland travels in Betty, hopefully giving some insight into the history of the places we travel, the food, culture, human connections and conveying our feelings about all of this. It is also a way to be disciplined in recording the travels so that we can read again in the future for ourselves. If others also get some pleasure, that is great.

WHY TRAVEL THIS WAY?

We are absolute believers that vehicle based overland travel provides one of the best opportunities to meet people at a street level between ‘destinations’. While destinations are great, it is the people that really matter and give greater perspective when trying to understand some of the global politics.

Having our own vehicle means that we can travel at our pace, stopping, staying or moving on and being equipped with our own accommodation, we really have flexibility.

Oh, and at a much more basic level, with Betty we hope to catch up with fellow Land Rover enthuisiasts along the way – there is a universal language there!
